South Sudan: 75,000 children on the run alone

The situation of the people in South Sudan remains catastrophic and is getting worse with every passing day. Hundreds of thousands of people are displaced because of the brutal civil war and ongoing drought. They seek protection in refugee camps in neighboring countries such as Uganda, Kenya or Ethiopia.

But unimaginable conditions prevail there too, so that girls and boys in particular suffer from hunger and disease. According to estimates by the UN refugee agency, 75,000 children are on the run alone. But the future also looks dark for the other children. Official estimates suggest 75 percent of South Sudan’s 5 million children are out of school. The future of an entire generation hangs in the balance.

Without aid from the international community, children, infants and weakened people in particular will die. Many people are severely traumatized by their experiences.

Drought in East Africa: People are starving

It is unimaginable that in the 21st century people in the world are still starving and the rest are doing nothing! We are all asked in our deepest humanity!

However, South Sudan is not the only country in East Africa affected by the lack of rain. The situation in Somalia is similarly hopeless. The months-long drought has taken a toll on people; hundreds of thousands are weak and sick as a result of malnutrition or inadequate supplies of clean drinking water. Numerous experts have been warning about these serious consequences of drought since last year. Only if we continue to increase aid can we save people from starvation.

Background in South Sudan:

A civil war has been raging in South Sudan since the end of 2013 between President Salva Kiir and rebels led by former Vice President Riek Machar. As a result of the conflict and a drought, there is famine in the Central African country. The YOU Foundation has also been collecting donations for months. Apparently only half of the required donations have been received.
