Key facts at a glance
More than 52,000 people fell victim to the deadly earthquake in Turkey and Syria, which is one of the worst natural disasters in the world in the last hundred years. Over a hundred thousand were injured. In addition, freezing cold and severe flooding aggravated the situation for those in need, especially children.
Together with experienced and reliable partner organizations that have been working in disaster areas for many years, the YOU Foundation – Education for Children in Need has developed programs that offer support to families whose houses have been destroyed and who now live in camps, tent or container cities and have experienced a great deal of suffering.
Our project work in the earthquake area of Türkiye:
• Mobile learning container “Firefly” – offering quality educational, sports and cultural activities for children. Care by professional staff, psychosocial care, learning opportunities and educational material are already available
• Bicycles for children: the program in the city of Hatay, in south-eastern Turkey, is an important milestone for children to be mobile and to be able to “be children”.
Our project work in the earthquake region of Syria:
• Rebuilding schools in Syria, restoring and rehabilitating destroyed school classes, purchasing suitable school furniture and facilities to create a protected learning environment for the resumption of education are priorities of the YOU Foundation
