The internet site www.new-baraka.com won accolades from the jury of the Red Dot Awards in three categories: Online, E-Commerce and Social Responsibility.

„We are very proud that our work received the most important design prize given by the Red Dot Award and thereby received recognition. The New Baraka project is also close to my heart,” says Alina Schlaier, the Creative Director at denkwerk who is responsible for the conception and creation of the website.

New Baraka competed against 7838 other entries in the category Communication Design. The “Excellence” prize was awarded to only 0,8 percent of all entrants. New Baraka received this distinction two times. The project also received a Red Dot Award in the category “Social Responsibility.”

The donation website www.new-baraka.com looks at the future of the Baraka slums in Senegal. Its inhabitants, 2000 inner-African refugees, wish to support themselves. What is missing is the funding. This much needed funding can be donated via the homepage. For example, furniture for the new houses, tools or school supplies. All of these are important resources that would allow the people of Baraka to transform the slum into a modern neighborhood. “The award for New Baraka is the icing on the cake for an already fantastic project that is very close to my heart. Everyone involved is providing a valuable contribution to change the Baraka Slum into a livable neighborhood,” says Ute Ohoven, founder of the YOU Foundation.

Red Dot
The Communication Design Award honors excellent work in 21 different categories in the area of communication design. Since 1993, this award belongs to the most important international accolades on the creative and design scene.
