Another milestone for Burkina Faso and Mali
The “Education and Vocational Training for the Sahel” project is a program to improve the quality of education, training, sport and to build cultural capacities in Burkina Faso and Mali. In the rural regions of Burkina Faso and Mali, the YOU Foundation pursues the goal of improving the living conditions of extremely poor people affected by crises and conflicts in order to help them help themselves.
In concrete terms, this means that training opportunities are created for young people in order to improve their career prospects, that the infrastructure is expanded through the construction of a school building and a sports hall and that sporting and social skills are strengthened. In addition, the nutritional situation of children at risk of malnutrition in the Kelbo community is being significantly improved.
The result of this sub-project 1 in Mamabougou, a village in the municipality of Finkolo, is the construction of a school building equipped with solar energy, furnished with the necessary furniture, equipment and materials. The successful advanced training of teachers was carried out, 9 teachers have already been trained. The content of the training courses included class management, motivation, morals and the legal framework. When instructors visited the class, it was possible to compensate for weaknesses in the teaching methods. The association “Tout pour enfant” carried out the training in cooperation with the regional education directorate of Sikasso, so that the level of instruction is increased.
165 pupils between the ages of 5 and 15 are now registered and receive a quality school education. Access to education for girls, the poor, the marginalized and children with disabilities is ensured through inclusive schools and the idea of a fair education policy. In Mali, too, the school year had to be interrupted by the Covid-19 lockdown.
